Very peaceful bonobos

I don't know shit about bonobos, but I know bullshit when I see it!

Not that anyone's losing sleep over it, but the idea bonobos - which are a runt subspecies of chimpanzees - are hobbits in the Shire has taken a beating over the years. The initial research discovering their cooperative and tranquil behavior was done on a pack of these savages at a zoo, where three hots and a cot will take the fight out of any beast.

The notion falls apart in the wild, natch! Bonobos are just chimps with a publicist.

More evidence in the latest study below, but some people are so wedded to the concept of a friendly monkey they can't bring themselves to say it's obvious bullshit. And this includes the researchers whose research has debunked the bullshit!

The finding: "Overall, bonobos engaged in 2.8 times more aggressive interactions and three times as many physical aggressions than chimpanzees."

The researcher (same story): “The idea is not to invalidate the image of bonobos being peaceful—the idea is that there is a lot more complexity in both species.”
